Upcoming Training Opportunities!

EducationWe have an opportunity at troop 8 to offer the Coast Guard Boating Safety Course to any interested parties. Virginia passed a law in 2007 that will require anyone operating a watercraft in Virginia to complete the course, and it is expected that Tennessee will follow suit. Regardless of age, all boaters in Virginia will be required to have completed the course by July 2016. See this link for more information: http://www.boatus.org/onlinecourse/statelaws/virginia.html.

If you are interested in this course, which will be offered all day on a Saturday, please contact Mr. Vance by email to joeysetax@btes.tv.

In addition, our neighbor, Bristol Troop 2, is hosting a free hunter safety course for any interested scouts and parents. See below…

We will have the Tennessee Hunter Safety program for all Scouts and parents who wish to take it at South Bristol United Methodist Church on September 16-20 from 6:30-9:00 p.m.The course is offered free of charge to anyone interested regardless of age; however, you must be nine years of age or older in order to become a certified hunter education graduate. The basic Hunter Education Course provides firearms safety training and introduces scouts to their responsibilities in the fields of hunter ethics and wildlife management. The basic course is free of charge and consists of a minimum of ten (10) hours of classroom participation. Scouts must successfully pass a written test consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. All students are required to participate in a live fire exercise on Saturday. The time for this will be announced next week. Please plan to attend this course.
